Great Start to the season!
The season is off to a good start; a little cold and a little wet but so far so good. As we start our third week of the season there are a couple reminders and few announcements.
Summer Baseball Camp Opportunities
Suburban is hosting three summer camps this year. The summer camps are put on by Frozen Ropes, Strike Zone and the Ultimate Baseball Academy. For dates and details go to www.omahasuburban.com.
Team Pictures
Picture packets are available at the snack shack for coaches to pick up and distribute to their teams. There are instruction and dates inside the packet. If the team decides not to take a photo and you would still like one of your son or daughter you may do so; just show up on the dates and you can have their picture taken.
Please help keep the park clean
For some reason the city was unable to provide us with our usual amount of trash cans. Which means there is more likely to be trash blown around; it is everyone responsibility to keep the park clean. If we all just pick up one piece of trash rather then walk over it, think how nicer the park would look. We are working to empty the cans at peak usage times to help with this but we need everyones help in keeping the park looking great.
Dogs and Baseball not a good combination
I know it sounds like a good idea to bring Fido to the park to enjoy the fresh air; it’s not! There are too many children running and throwing baseballs, swinging bats and people moving around all of the time. Unfortunately, you can not keep your eyes on the dog the whole time and it only takes a second for something to happen. We have not had a problem with a child getting bit by a dog yet but also we don't want to have that happen. We have had some problems with owners cleaning up after their dog and no one wants to step in what you dog leaves behind. Please leave the dogs at home; the dog doesn’t want to watch the game.
Scooters, Skateboards and Razors
Effective immediately scooters, skateboards and razors will not be permitted in or around the pavilion. We have had two incidents already this year were someone was knocked down. The field managers and the snack shack manager will begin enforcing this immediately.
Raking fields after the games
The Suburban field crew does an outstanding job getting the fields ready and we are usually the first ones playing after it rains, but we could use your help. After the last game of the night the team in the first base dugout is responsible for raking the field. That means using the rake in the dugout and smoothing the field around the home plate area and the pitchers mound. It should take all of five minutes. You could help your coach out and while he or she is giving the post game talk you could do that for them. Agrilime is a great product but needs this daily maintence to repair the wear that a baseball game takes on the field. When we get an overnight rain or run the sprinklers on the infields this will help to keep the mound and batters box level.
Base plugs, please leave alone!
You might have seen on the field little yellow tassels coming up from the ground. Those are there to mark the position of the base when the field is set up for another league, please don’t pull those out of the ground. We use a quick change system to move the bases and that doesn't work if the support tube of the base is filled w/ agrilime.
Equipment Manager for baseball needed
The board has one position to fill and that is Equipment Manager. This person is responsible for collecting and distributing equipment to teams. The hard part for this year is all ready done, we need someone to collect and organize the equipment at the end of the year. This is a board position and person filling this role will be given all the rank and privileges bestowed a board member. It's a great way to help out the league and keep all of our players using safe and functional equipment. Call the office or talk to any of the current board member if you would like to become involved with this.
Batting Cage usage
Many teams have started to take advantage of the new batting cages near Field 6. There is still more open time for them to be used each night. The traditional Suburban usage rule is for a team to occupy a tunnel for up to 30 minutes if another team is waiting to hit. That limit then allows everyone to take advantage of the facilities.
